Employees and their families at the Flowserve Chesapeake Bay facility participated in the 20th annual Clean the Bay Day, where they gathered an estimated 4,000 pounds of trash from the large storm-water retention system that surrounds their facility. In total the Clean the Bay Day event included 6,000 volunteers and 153 boaters, all of whom turned out to collect 179,000 pounds of litter from 415 miles of shorelines and waterways of the Chesapeake Bay.
Extensive recycling programs in facilities worldwide, annual audits and empowered employees all help to reduce Flowserve's impact on the environment. A 2007 report indicated that, from 1988-2006, Flowserve and its predecessor companies:
