Committed to the future of our youth
Flowserve associates in China understand the importance of investing time, sharing knowledge and developing Chinese youth for the future.
For the past three years, Flowserve China and Junior Achievement have been partnering to coordinate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and have seen outstanding results. Over 160 employees selflessly dedicated more than 1,800 hours to various volunteer efforts between 2008 and 2010. So far this year, our associates in China have already held two successful community events.
In April, the Junior Achievement “Our World” program was launched at the SIP Weiting School. 18 volunteers from the Flowserve Suzhou plant spent the day teaching nearly 200 students about international trade through games and learning activities. Wang Tao, an 11 year-old student from the Weiting School, said “A fun and memorable afternoon. I learned international trade knowledge from our funny volunteer teachers. I would like to be a volunteer when I grow up. Come again, volunteer teachers!”
In May, Flowserve Shanghai volunteers from Ethics & Compliance, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Marketing and Operations spent a day with more than 60 students at Shanghai Donghua University discussing the importance of ethics in the business world. The young students’ interest and positive attitude towards China’s business ethics left a strong impression on the Flowserve volunteers, and our team also left a strong impression on the students. “From the workshop, I understood that there is no easy ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ in business ethics and learned how to make an ethical decision whether at work or in life,” said Donghua University sophomore Nie Yong. “We should hold a fair, responsible and honest attitude. Those values will help us choose the right direction.”
In 2011, Flowserve China plans to launch the Comprehensive Leadership Program (CLP), which will be led by a team of Flowserve volunteers who want to share their personal experiences and practical knowledge and skills. The program will provide a series of innovative, critical educational programs for Chinese youth to learn about international trade, business ethics and leadership development paths.
With a strong commitment from volunteers and great team work, Flowserve China associates continue to demonstrate the Flowserve volunteer spirit and the importance of investing in our communities and educating our youth.
